New ‘Portal’ Bridging NYC and Dublin to “Bring the World Together” Goes Awry After Disturbing 9/11 Terrorist Attack was Displayed.
In an ambitious attempt to “bring the world together,” two large circular livestream portals have been installed connecting New York City and Dublin, Ireland.
However, the project’s intent of fostering global unity quickly soured due to unexpected and controversial content.
Lord Mayor Daithí de Róiste aimed to enhance inclusivity in Dublin through the Portals project, fostering connections across communities worldwide. However, controversy arose when the Dublin portal inadvertently displayed a distressing image of the Twin Towers ablaze, evoking memories of the 9/11 attacks.
Reports have emerged of inappropriate interactions across the portals, including videos circulating online depicting individuals from both cities making offensive gestures towards each other.
Following the portal's launch, a woman was arrested in Dublin, although the specifics of the arrest have not been disclosed.
