China just ran an artificial sun for 403 seconds, almost four times the previous world record

China's Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), also known as the "artificial sun," has set a new world record by generating and maintaining highly confined plasma at extremely hot temperatures for nearly seven minutes.

The previous record was set in 2017 with a time of 101 seconds, but the EAST in the city of Hefei, eastern China, managed to sustain plasma for 403 seconds. This achievement is a significant step towards developing high-efficiency, low-cost thermonuclear fusion reactors, and could improve the technical and economic feasibility of fusion reactors, according to Song Yuntao, director of the Institute of Plasma Physics.

Nuclear fusion is considered a safe, clean, and nearly limitless source of energy, and EAST, which has been conducting experiments since 2006, is a promising path towards controlled nuclear fusion. Song and his team have worked tirelessly to achieve this breakthrough, conducting over 120,000 experiments in the process, and the success is a big step forward for their research, fusion engineering, and project operation and maintenance.

- Most of you who have been following this technology, know that this is not new. "They" have been using this tech for over twenty years now. "They" are making it sound like it is new tech.  Get yourselves out there and do the research. ~ Editor TBT -
