As of May 30, 2025, Israel has accepted a U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal for Gaza, but the ceasefire has not yet taken effect. Hamas is still reviewing the proposal and has expressed reservations, stating that it does not meet key demands such as a permanent end to hostilities, withdrawal of Israeli forces, and unrestricted humanitarian aid access.

The proposed ceasefire includes a 60-day pause in fighting, during which Hamas would release 10 living hostages and the remains of 18 others, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners and increased humanitarian aid . Despite Israel's acceptance, hostilities continue, with recent Israeli airstrikes resulting in civilian casualties in Gaza.
