DEEP PURPLE "Oh Well”

“Oh Well” is a song originally written and recorded by Fleetwood Mac, known for its blues-driven guitar riffs and raw energy. Deep Purple has put their own spin on the track, releasing it as part of their covers album “Turning to Crime.” The accompanying music video adds an adventurous narrative, showing the band members on a unique and unexpected mission.

During the filming of the video in Germany in early October, label representatives and management confirmed that no injuries occurred among the band, crew, or members of the media involved in the production. The video’s storyline and production details remain under wraps, but it showcases Deep Purple’s signature style while paying homage to a rock classic.

Bassist Roger Glover spoke about the band’s approach to covering “Oh Well”, explaining how they honored the original while infusing it with their own creativity. Guitarist Steve Morse initially worked on the demo, keeping the song recognizable in its early verses. However, as Glover describes, the track quickly evolved into something unexpected, taking off "like a rocket into another space." Deep Purple’s version maintains the original’s bluesy foundation but expands on it, bringing a fresh and dynamic energy that reflects the band’s decades-long legacy in rock.

The release of “Oh Well” is part of Deep Purple’s first-ever album entirely composed of cover songs, “Turning to Crime”. Produced by Bob Ezrin, a longtime collaborator known for his work with Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, and Kiss, the album features reinterpretations of classic tracks from various artists, showcasing Deep Purple’s ability to reimagine music while staying true to their hard rock roots.

“Turning to Crime” was released through earMUSIC on November 26, 2021, marking a unique chapter in the band’s extensive discography. The project is a departure from their original material but highlights their musicianship and ability to bring new life to well-known songs. Fans of both Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple can appreciate the fusion of blues and hard rock in their interpretation of “Oh Well”, adding yet another memorable moment to Deep Purple’s storied career.
