China Faces Surge in Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) Cases Amid Seasonal Respiratory Illnesses
China is currently experiencing a notable increase in cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory virus that commonly circulates during the winter months. This surge has led to overcrowded hospitals, particularly affecting young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
HMPV, first identified in 2001, typically causes symptoms similar to the common cold or flu, including cough, fever, nasal congestion, and shortness of breath.
