They Weren't Supposed To See This

A Pennsylvania-based ABC affiliate recently aired something unexpected: the upcoming U.S. presidential election results for the state of Pennsylvania, during a Formula 1 race broadcast from Mexico City. Viewers noticed the results screen appeared for several minutes, sparking confusion and prompting the station, WPVI, to issue an apology.

According to WPVI, the displayed numbers were randomly generated test results intended to ensure broadcast equipment readiness for election night, not actual results. They clarified that this was an internal error and assured viewers that steps had been taken to prevent future occurrences.

This incident has led some viewers to question the need for such early test runs, wondering why election data displays would need a test run more than a week ahead of election night.
