The Rhode Island judge dismissed the case challenging Trump's ballot eligibility, citing a recent 1st Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in a similar case in New Hampshire.

U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr. wrote that the lawsuit lacked standing because it was brought by John Anthony Castro, who is running a write-in campaign for president as a Republican, citing the 1st Circuit Court Appeals ruling on a similar case Castro brought in New Hampshire.

The appellate court found that Castro failed to prove he is a "direct and current competitor at the time he filed his complaint."
