China tests artillery system with artificial intelligence - AI improves accuracy

to an unprecedented level

China has reportedly conducted a successful test of an artillery gun integrated with artificial intelligence, which has resulted in an unprecedented level of accuracy.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army's latest weapon in its arsenal demonstrated outstanding accuracy, surpassing any other weapons previously used.  According to China's South China Morning Post, the artillery gun can precisely hit a target located up to 16km away with the aid of AI-guided targeting.

Although there is no independent confirmation beyond a few Chinese websites, the cannon's accuracy in testing has exceeded all expectations. The project was led by Chinese Professor Wang Jiang of the Beijing Institute of Technology, and his research was published this month in the journal Acta Armamentarii.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army's latest artillery gun integrated with artificial intelligence has achieved an unprecedented level of accuracy, thanks to the AI's ability to process data much faster than traditional mathematical methods. Equipped with sensors, radars, and cameras, the gun collects information on various factors such as target location, wind speed, and more, crucial for precision firing.

The collected data is then sent to a computer, which calculates the optimal angle and force required for firing. Additionally, the system can automatically correct firing in real-time based on environmental changes. Compared to conventional projectiles, which can deviate from the target by up to 100 meters, guided munitions have been used to address this issue. However, their accuracy is still limited, as several factors need to be considered in real-time to correct course during flight. Artificial intelligence can instantly perform this task.

Chinese professor Wang Jiang of the Beijing Institute of Technology, who led the project, stated that they have tested several AI models to handle complex changes in a projectile's trajectory. According to the researchers, the division of labor between multiple models has significantly increased the accuracy of hitting targets. These advancements in artillery technology are a testament to the enormous potential of AI in military applications.
