Two key Republicans call for Secretary of State Blinken to resign over Hunter Biden revelations.

Sen. Ron Johnson and Rep. Andy Biggs say Blinken
should face impeachment if he doesn't step down.

In October 2020, a letter was sent from a group of former intelligence officials to Congress, stating that they believed that Hunter Biden's laptop contents had all the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign. This letter was seized upon by the Biden campaign to deflect questions about the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop, which allegedly contained damaging information about his father Joe Biden's foreign business dealings.

Recently, former CIA chief Michael Morell testified that Secretary of State Antony Blinken spurred him to organize the letter to benefit Joe Biden's campaign. Morell agreed to do so because Blinken reached out to him, and he wanted to influence the election in Joe Biden's favor. This has led to calls from two high-profile Republicans, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), for Blinken to resign or be impeached for allegedly helping to trigger this false portrayal of Hunter Biden's laptop contents as Russian disinformation.

Republicans argue that Blinken's alleged willingness to accuse Russia of interfering in the U.S. election without evidence has irreparably harmed America's credibility with foreign countries, making it impossible for him to deal credibly with foreign countries as America's chief diplomat. However, Democrats reject the Republicans' characterization of Morell's testimony, saying that no part of it demonstrates that Blinken or any other Biden campaign official asked Morell to write a letter about Hunter Biden's laptop. The matter is currently under investigation, and the State Department has declined to comment on it.
