Sean Hannity's Ratings Plunge After
Tucker Carlsons Fox News Exit
But the 9 p.m. Fox News program hosted by Sean Hannity drew about 2.5 million on Monday, 2 million on Tuesday, and 1.7 million on Wednesday night, according to Nielsen. In comparison, Hannity drew about 2.6 million viewers the Wednesday a week before, the ratings show.
Laura Ingraham’s “The Ingraham Angle” drew 2.156 million on Wednesday, April 19. But this past Wednesday, two days after Carlson was confirmed gone, her show drew 1.55 million viewers.
Jesse Watters’ show also saw a decline. For Wednesday, it saw an audience of 1.558 million, but a week prior, it generated 2.1 million.
Earlier this week, Hannity admitted to having limited knowledge about the reasons behind Carlson's departure. Carlson used to hand off to Hannity after his 8 p.m. show, as both are among the top-rated cable news personalities.
During his program "The Sean Hannity Show" on Monday, Hannity expressed his difficulty in understanding the situation. He mentioned that his phone had been ringing nonstop, and he had no clue about the details. He wasn't sure if Carlson left on his own, if Fox made the decision, or if it was a mutual agreement.
Despite being the longest-serving host at Fox News, Hannity stated that he had no insider information about the matter. He explained that he didn't own the company, and hence, didn't have any authoritative power over its decisions. So, he couldn't provide any valuable insights to those seeking answers.
Newsmax Surges
Since Carlson's departure, one of the immediate beneficiaries seems to be Newsmax, a conservative-leaning news network and a rival of Fox News. According to Nielsen ratings, while Fox's primetime ratings have declined, Newsmax's ratings have surged.
Eric Bolling, a host on Newsmax, had 510,000 viewers on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET, compared to just 168,000 the week before. On Tuesday, Bolling's show drew 562,000 viewers, a significant increase from the 122,000 viewers on the same day a week earlier.
This week, Newsmax has been promoting the claim that Fox News is becoming more liberal and is bowing to left-wing interests by allowing Carlson to leave the network. However, the exact reason behind Carlson's departure is still unclear.
