Democrat Candidate RFK Jr. Slams ABC News After They Admit to Censoring His Interview: Illegal
Kennedy, who has been scrutinized for his anti-vaccine views, has gained nearly 20% support in Democrat primary polls despite recently announcing his candidacy.
Before the interview aired, Davis stated that Kennedy is one of the most prominent voices opposing vaccines, spreading misinformation and disinformation about their safety and efficacy, which scientific and medical experts overwhelmingly support based on rigorous scientific studies.
Davis later disclosed that ABC News decided to censor some of Kennedy's statements about vaccines. She noted that Kennedy made false claims about COVID-19 vaccines during their conversation, and the network used its editorial judgment to exclude extended portions of that exchange in the interview. Davis cited the American Academy of Pediatrics and Autism Speaks to demonstrate that Kennedy made misleading claims about the link between vaccination and autism.
Kennedy responded to the censorship by referring to a statute that he claims prohibits television networks from censoring presidential candidates. He accused ABC of demonstrating contempt for the law, democracy, and its viewers by selectively editing the interview and offering a defamatory disclaimer. Kennedy insisted that every assertion he made during the conversation was supported by evidence and that ABC's decision to censor the interview was unjustified.
Kennedy argued that the public deserved to hear the full interview and decide for themselves. He emphasized the importance of a free and unbiased press to democracy and pledged that if elected, he would ensure that the FCC adheres to the law and revokes licenses of networks that prioritize advertisers' commercial interests over the public good.
